MARKETS OF THE WORLD
The Colour of Life, the Richness of Human Encounters
Around the world, markets are places where life unfolds in all its diversity. Among makeshift stalls and piles of fruit, fabrics, fish, spices and everyday goods, a wealth of human activity takes place, shaped by hard work, resourcefulness, resilience and hope. Men and women work to earn a living, turning the products of the land, the sea and their own hands into the means to survive and build a future.
Every market is a small portrait of the world. Cultures, languages, customs and knowledge meet here. Prices are negotiated, glances exchanged and relationships formed. Trade is more than a transaction. It is an age-old way of bringing people together, connecting communities and distant places through shared needs and everyday encounters.
In these black-and-white photographs, colour has not disappeared. It lives in the gestures, the variety of goods, the textures of the merchandise, the expressions on people’s faces and the energy of those at work. We are left to imagine the red of the spices, the green of the vegetables, the brightness of the fruit, the vivid patterns of the fabrics and the movement of the crowds.
Markets of the World celebrates the richness of human activity: our ability to create, exchange, adapt and carry on. A world of differences that comes together, day after day, in the universal search for a livelihood and a dignified life.
